The US entry ban for Europeans was recently a thorn in the side of the EU because it had recommended its member states to allow vaccinated Americans into the country. The subject should soon be off the table.
According to media reports, foreigners with a corona vaccination will be able to re-enter the USA from November 8th.
The broadcaster CNN and the website “The Hill” reported on the opening of the borders, citing a tweet from assistant government spokesman Kevin Munoz. Munoz wrote on Twitter on Friday: “The new US travel policy, which requires vaccinations for foreign travelers to the United States, begins on November 8th. This announcement and date apply to both international air travel and land travel. “
The easing of the entry bans for people from numerous countries, including residents of the EU and Great Britain, was announced a few weeks ago – but the date was still open. The entry restrictions have been in place for a good year and a half.
In September it was said that adults had to prove they were fully vaccinated before they could board the plane to America. In addition, travelers would have to show a negative corona test that is no more than three days old. The airlines are to keep passenger contact information for 30 days so that they can be notified of any corona cases. Exact specifications as to how this follow-up should take place were still open. So far, only three vaccines have been approved in the USA: the preparations from Pfizer / Biontech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
This ends a long travel ban to the USA. The then US President Donald Trump ordered an entry freeze for foreigners from large parts of Europe in March 2020, at the beginning of the corona pandemic. Entry from the Schengen area, Great Britain and Ireland was prohibited with a few exceptions. For foreigners from India, China, Brazil, South Africa and Iran, extensive entry bans were imposed in the USA due to the pandemic and rigorously maintained for many months.
The EU, on the other hand, had already asked its member states in June to gradually lift restrictions on travelers from the USA and several other countries. Germany then again allowed entries from the USA, among others, also for holidaymakers. This means that Americans could re-enter Germany from June 20 if they could prove a vaccination, a survived Covid disease or a negative corona test.
