The car has an image problem. Too big, too heavy, too expensive. It takes up a lot of space in the crowded metropolitan areas, even when it’s not driving but parking. According to studies, private vehicles sit idle for an average of 23 hours a day. And when they drive, there is usually only one passenger in it, framed by two tons of steel. At the same time, those who have always been on the back burner when it comes to urban planning are revolting: cyclists are demanding more and wider cycle paths, and the idea of car-free, pedestrian-friendly inner cities is gaining more and more supporters.
