Transport budget causes trouble: Where do the billions go – and where don’t they – economy

On paper everything is good. No other ministry will receive as many additional billions in the 2024 budget that has just been approved as Volker Wissing’s house: 44.1 billion euros will be available to the Federal Transport Minister in the current year for the transformation of the sector. That is 5.4 billion more than originally planned and 8.6 billion more than in 2023. The reason for this increase is, on the one hand, the equity increase at Deutsche Bahn, with which the federal government, following the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court, is using the missing billions from the climate change. and Transformation Fund (KTF) at least partially compensated; on the other hand, the increased truck toll, which is intended to encourage haulage companies to switch to emission-free heavy trucks.
