We are halfway through a busy schedule of more than 100 shows. Paris Fashion Week, dedicated to the Spring-Summer women’s collections from French fashion houses and young designers, presented pieces that already foreshadow the trends of 2024. After the shows of Pierre Cardin, Christian Dior, Saint Laurent, Courrèges, Marni and Balmain, several patterns, materials and silhouettes stand out on the catwalks.
Under the sign of transparency
Light, soft and airy, the transparent tulle fabric is the star of these first days of fashion week. On the catwalks, dresses, t-shirts, blouses and skirts reveal underwear and bodies. Already adopted by Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Balmain and Courrèges, transparency is a hit.
At Saint-Laurent, loose dresses, long-sleeved T-shirts and sheer tank tops took to the runway in a variety of colors. The collection, inspired by the profession of aviator and explorer, takes on a feminine dimension according to its artistic director Anthony Vaccarello, by revealing the models’ chests through the long-sleeved tulle t-shirts close to the body.
Present in all collections, transparency comes in the form of long net dresses, lace and of course tulle. Sometimes, it even reveals underwear made of the same material. Acné Studio has exclusively adopted the transparent tulle skirt, revealing the panties. An already essential trend, also adopted by Balmain in the form of a blouse. Sexy and casual, it’s hard to miss this new trend at the start of Fashion Week.
Flowers, stripes and big polka dots
Three colorful patterns stood out on the catwalks: floral patterns, stripes and polka dots! More or less pronounced, they were adopted by several designers for this new Fashion Week, suggesting a future trend. Already adopted by the stars, singers and rappers Usher, Erykah Badu and Eddy de Pretto Quavo were seen wearing the polka dot pattern during the Marni fashion show.
For spring 2024, Olivier Rousteing, designer of the Balmain house, opted for bright floral dresses and polka dot shirts. Without forgetting the brand’s iconic fitted blazers revisited with shoulder pads.
For its first show in Paris, Marni, with Dries Van Noten at its helm, dared to push patterns to the extreme. Stripes adorned jackets, skirts and shirts in brightly colored dresses and ensembles. While 3D flowers decorated skirts, dresses and tops. Recurring motifs that are already unanimous on social networks.
Long skirts in all its forms, high-necked tank tops, silver colors or the color red are also recurrent in the different houses. Will they join the club of future trends?
