Transfers: Arsenal would have dropped 8.3 million euros on Aubameyang to release him from his last 18 months of contract

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed his departure from Arsenal. On his Instagram account, the Gabonese international wrote a farewell message to Gunners supporters that night, while regretting not having had the opportunity of their “say goodbye“. At the same time, the former Stéphanois received a tidy sum from Arsenal, who released him from his last eighteen months of contract on Monday.
According to information from the British daily, The Times, the current sixth in the Premier League paid almost 8.39 million euros to the 32-year-old striker, bought some 63 million euros in January 2018 from Dortmund. The English media specifies in particular that the player passed by Lille, Monaco or Saint-Etienne received around 1.7 million euros per month. And while his contract ran until June 2023, the Gunners would therefore have paid their former captain the amount they had to pay him until the end of this season.

A far from trivial effort for a player who had not played since December 6th. But the Londoners are already saving his huge salary for next season (note: nearly 20 million euros). And there too, it is anything but trivial to allow the Gunners to rebuild their attack.

The Gabonese striker, author of 92 goals in four years with Arsenal and who won the 2020 Cup and the English Supercup in 2021, has just officially joined FC Barcelona until June 2025. However, the now ex-Gunner and the Catalan club will have the opportunity to end their collaboration in the summer of 2023 thanks to a clause in the Gabonese’s contract.
