At Werder Bremen, the end of the transfer period is turbulent. In Niclas Füllkrug, the most important player is about to move to Borussia Dortmund. But more is happening.

The change of Werder Bremen’s national striker Niclas Füllkrug to Borussia Dortmund is imminent. The 30-year-old attacker no longer took part in the training of the North Germans.

“We are in contact with a club regarding Niclas and have largely reached an agreement. There are still a few details to be clarified, so I don’t want to name any names yet,” said Bremen’s football boss Clemens Fritz. “It’s an option that fits all sides.”

Transfer of 15 million euros in space

According to media reports, Füllkrug is to receive a three-year contract in Dortmund. There is a transfer fee of around 15 million euros in the room, and Füllkrug is supposed to complete the medical check with the runner-up today. He expects an agreement later today, said Fritz.

At BVB there is also a need for the center forward position because attacker Sébastien Haller wants to play for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024 and will therefore not be available to Dortmund for a long time. Füllkrug could play in Dortmund in the Champions League and hope for a better chance of being nominated for the European Championships at home next year.

As soon as the change has taken place, Bremen want to present a new striker. “There is one clear favourite. There are three or four people we are dealing with in total. Now we have to see what we can do,” said Fritz.

Werder are already further along in their search for a new left-back. Olivier Deman from Cercle Brugge is about to move to the Weser. The 23-year-old Belgium international completed the medical check on Thursday and is expected to sign a contract soon.
