This personality comes as a surprise. Jérôme Boateng is returning to FC Bayern – initially only as a training guest. What do the people of Munich hope for from him?

The former national player Jérôme Boateng (35) has initially returned to FC Bayern Munich as a training guest.

The central defender, who was recently without a club, completed a training session on Säbener Straße with the reservists one day after the 2-2 draw in the top Bundesliga game at RB Leipzig. This was announced by the people of Munich. Boateng should also train with FC Bayern in the coming days.

So far without a club

The 2014 world champion did not get a new contract with Olympique Lyon in June after two years. Boateng had previously played for FC Bayern for ten years. The 76-time former national player won the treble with Munich in 2013 and 2020.

Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team can use alternative personnel in defense. Most recently, the three central defenders Matthijs de Ligt, Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano were out due to injuries in the DFB Cup. Midfielder Leon Goretzka then had to help out in defense in the 4-0 win against Preußen Münster.

Return to FCB?

Boateng can now demonstrate his level of performance in the third place in the Bundesliga. “Bayern is a great club. I felt comfortable, was able to experience my limits and improve,” said the Berlin native when he left two years ago. In Lyon, after mixed performances, he was ultimately only a reservist.

Recently there were rumors that Boateng had been discussed at Real Madrid as a replacement for the injured David Alaba. According to a Catalan online newspaper, he called Real President Florentino Pérez and offered his services. “In his entire career, Jérôme has never offered himself personally to any club or even called the president, basically not. He has an advisor for that,” replied Boateng’s advisor Tolga Dirican on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
