Transfer dubious appointments in Google Calendar from Gmail: Bug can be stopped

In the past few days, more and more users have reported problems with Google Calendar. This should appear appointments whose origin is unclear. They’re probably from emails that end up at Gmail. Nevertheless, there are probably no clearly recognizable dates as such. Some people also report on Twitter that their desired appointments no longer appear. Google links to the problem report page.

As at first”9to5Googlereports that those affected also suspect newsletters. However, there is no clear pattern. A widespread entry is a “US finance privacy note”, which ends up in the calendar as an all-day appointment, including a notification on Android smartphones.

To solve the problem, the automatic transfer of appointments from Gmail to the calendar can be deactivated in the settings. There is no real filter as to which appointments should be transferred. Instead, you have to give the respective consent by replying – or enter appointments manually.

The automatic transmission was already exploited in 2019 to bring masses of spam to people’s calendars. Links were included, for example to promised iPhones, which of course led to sites with criminal intentions. At that time it was said that even if Gmail recognized the messages as spam, the appointments could be transferred. However, Google also stated that they were aware of the problem and were working on a solution.
