Train accident in Reichertshausen – what is known so far

After a train accident on the route between Munich and Ingolstadt with seven injuries, the track closure between Munich and Ingolstadt has been lifted. Train traffic was possible again without restrictions, the railway announced early on Saturday morning. Both trains were taken to a workshop. The cause of the accident remains the subject of investigations.

ICE and regional trains brush against each other

An ICE and the regional train collided laterally on Friday afternoon on the route between Munich and Ingolstadt at a switch at the train station in Reichertshausen (Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district). According to preliminary information, seven people were slightly injured, two were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, said a federal police spokeswoman.

Over 1,000 passengers stranded

Numerous rescue services and police were on site. 25 Bundeswehr soldiers who were traveling as train passengers also helped with the rescue efforts.

Around 700 people were traveling on the two affected trains at the time of the accident. According to the federal police, there were around 550 passengers in another ICE that came to a stop near the scene of the accident. In total, around 1,200 train passengers were initially stranded in Reichertshausen.

The passengers on the two trains involved in the accident had to wait longer to be evacuated. The Ilmtalhalle in Reichertshausen was made available for them. “All travelers can continue their journey by bus, taxi or train,” said a railway spokeswoman in the evening.
