Minden-Hannover railway line will be repaired until Friday
The fire on a freight train near Hanover was extinguished after a few hours on Tuesday. But repairing the route is taking a long time. Now it is clear what commuters will face.
After a track was reopened, long-distance traffic was “largely stable” again. Some of the trains are routed past the scene of the accident. This particularly affects the ICE 10 from Bonn via Hanover to Berlin, which prefers to travel on the regular route again, said the railway spokeswoman. On the other hand, there are still numerous cancellations and delays on regional trains. The route is expected to be fully opened on Friday.
On Tuesday morning, the railcar driver stopped his freight train on the way from Rotterdam to Lehrte. According to the federal police, he reported an arc and the overhead wire had fallen onto the track. One wagon caught fire and there was a risk that the flames would spread to neighboring wagons. The fire department prevented that.
The police have not yet provided any information about the cause of the damage. The investigation is still ongoing, a spokesman said. The overhead line may have been damaged, but other causes are also possible.
