The current Germany trend sees the three traffic light parties at 33 percent overall. The Federal Minister of Justice is therefore hoping for more composure from all those involved in the coming year.

For the new year, Federal Justice Minister Marco Buschmann wishes… Traffic light coalition has a better style of debate. It is “probably a little clumsy” that “when we have actually solved a problem, we often have another noisy, how should we say, follow-up round, which then usually outshines the successes,” said the FDP politician German press agency.

The coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP has so far led the country well through crises, for which it has received recognition abroad. However, he observes that “we still manage to provide debates and reasons for discussion that distract from these great achievements – and we should better refrain from doing that in the new year.”

The current Germany trend sees the three traffic light parties at 33 percent overall. If the federal election were held this Sunday, the Union would get 32 percent.

When asked whether citizens might be dissatisfied not only because of the clumsy communication, but perhaps also because of unpopular decisions, such as the electric car bonus, Buschmann replied: “I would never say that we are perfect and everything do it right and it’s just a communication problem.” Nobody is free from mistakes.

Clear gut feeling in FPD member survey

When it comes to economic policy, the differences between the FDP and the Greens are large, which is why debate often has to be a little longer in order to come to a good solution, said the Justice Minister. When it comes to the powers of the security authorities and civil liberties, there has recently been a dispute between the FDP and SPD.

He does not want to speculate about the outcome of the FPD member survey, which runs until January 1st, about whether the party will remain in the traffic light coalition. Buschmann said: “Of course I have a clear gut feeling, but it is not appropriate to have any influence on it while proceedings are ongoing. But you can imagine that I believe that most members are also of the opinion that, for example I can continue my work.”
