Traffic in the district of Ebersberg: push for inter-municipal speed limit – Ebersberg

At the moment it’s a topic again: a speed limit, which is primarily intended to save fuel, which is becoming increasingly expensive. The two neighboring communities of Poing and Vaterstetten are also demanding a speed limit. However, the reason for this is not the high petrol prices, but it is against high speeds.

The road in question leads through both neighboring communities – but they have nothing to report there under traffic law. Because if you drive from Poing via Angelrechting to Neufarn, you are on the EBE 2 district road. That is why the municipal councils in both Poing and Vaterstetten have now made an appeal to the district office. This had already been decided in Poing in February, and now the neighboring municipality has also followed suit. The committees voted unanimously for the speed limit to 70 kilometers per hour.

Tempo 100 currently applies on the route out of town, as is usual according to the road traffic regulations. A reduction is therefore only possible if there is a so-called “qualified risk situation” on the road section in question. This situation does not exist between Neufarn and Poing, but according to the initiators of the appeal – the CSU and Free Voters factions in both municipal councils – a speed limit could improve road safety.

In the places, some are very fast

Specifically, it is about the situation in the city. According to the applicants, “even at a significant distance after the place-name sign, people regularly drive well above the 50 kilometers per hour permitted there in town”. An average value of 62 kilometers per hour was determined for Poing-Süd. The dubious record was set by two drivers who were flashed at 93 kilometers per hour in the local area of ​​Angelrechting and even at a speed of 115 in Poing.

The applicants’ idea: If the maximum speed were to drop outside of built-up areas, it would also do the same when driving through built-up areas. Last but not least – and here the appeal is again at the height of the current debate – in addition to road safety and noise protection, the consequences for the environment and the wallet are also important: “The distance between Poing and Angelrechting is around 610 km, and that between Angelrechting and Neufarn 550 Meter.” On such short distances, accelerating and braking between 50 and 100 km/h is “not ecologically, economically and certainly not expedient in terms of time”.
