Trade – EU fights against China – Economy

Negotiators from the European Parliament and the EU states have agreed on stricter action against competition-distorting subsidies from countries like China. “This is an important step to protect our economic interests,” said French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire. In concrete terms, the EU Commission should have more options to check companies that apply for public contracts but may have been subsidized in a way that distorts competition. In case of doubt, the EU competition authorities should be able to prohibit state-subsidized companies from third countries from taking over companies.
