The first thing climbers usually see upon arriving at Mount Everest base camp is a large boulder. It reads “Everest Base Camp 5364 m” in red spray paint. The Brocken is, in the truest sense of the word, a milestone that blends into nature and on whose plateau you can stand for a snapshot. This season, however, the view of the boulder is blocked from a large welcome sign, which shows the two first climbers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. The board isn’t exactly met with enthusiasm on social networks. There is talk of a “feeling of commercialization” or that the sign is “out of place”. Someone wrote that it caused “eye pain.”
