Lea Sophie Friedrich won the gold medal in the keirin sprint at the Track Cycling World Championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

The 22-year-old defending champion triumphed in the final ahead of Mina Sato from Japan and Steffie van der Peet from the Netherlands. For Friedrich, after gold in the team sprint and silver in the sprint, it was her third medal on the Olympic track in Paris 2024.

Teammate Emma Hinze, the 2020 Keirin World Champion, had decided not to start because of the high pressure. Alessa-Catriona Pröpster was the second German participant who had already dropped out in the repechage.
