Towards a new Cévennes episode “remarkable for the season” planned for this weekend

Languedoc should experience a new Cévennes episode this weekend. An episode described as “remarkable for the season” by the Météo Languedoc site. The episode should mainly affect the Cévennes, but also the west of Gard and the east of Hérault.

“On Saturday, the sea wind will strengthen with gusts of 50/70 km/h in general, locally 80 km/h. This wind will tend to push the rain towards the hinterland and particularly on the hills. This situation is typical of the Cévennes episode,” explains the weather specialists. Precipitation should have difficulty settling into the plains as they are swept by the wind. They will then accumulate on the Cévennes foothills where they could reach 200 mm locally.

“No disaster scenario in sight”

The rains are expected to be quite heavy and long-lasting in the Cévennes foothills. “However, no catastrophic scenario is anticipated,” underlines Weather Languedoc. The episode promises to be less dramatic than at the beginning of March, when eight people, mainly in Gard, but also in Ardèche and Hérault, died during the passage of storm Monica. Since the start of the year, Languedoc has already been affected six times by Mediterranean episodes.

As is often the case during Cévennes episodes, the rains should not affect Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales, which have been facing a historic drought for two years.
