The life of the internationally acclaimed Danish author Tove Ditlevsen offers plenty of material: born into poor circumstances in Copenhagen in 1917, she left school at the age of 14 to work as a housemaid. Eight years later, she made her debut with the poetry collection “Pigesind” (German for “Girl’s Sense”) and married the magazine editor Viggo Møller, who was 30 years her senior. This was followed by three more marriages, four children, affairs, abortions, medication abuse, psychoses, suicide attempts and a total of almost 40 books with poems, short stories, novels, articles and letters. In 1976, Tove Ditlevsen took his own life at the age of 58.
