Tourists charged at 2,000 euros by taxis from Roissy

It’s a hundred times the usual price. Several tourists were shocked to discover on their bank account that their journey from Roissy airport, costing around twenty euros, had been billed to them for 2,000 euros by fake taxi drivers, according to an airport source.

Since mid-January, a dozen people, mainly of Asian origin, have filed a complaint with the border police, but several other travelers have reportedly been victims of the same scam. In transit, they would not have reported to the French authorities because they would not have realized the fraudulent overcharging until after leaving the country, the source specifies.

Four drivers arrested

After an investigation, four drivers were arrested Monday morning by border police. Hitting their targets in the terminal, they had managed to obtain official taxi payment terminals and had rigged the display, blurring the bill of their passengers by two additional zeros.

The equipment and vehicles of the scammers were seized. The four arrested were summoned to the Bobigny court (Seine-Saint-Denis) on May 22.
