The former Tour de France fourth Emanuel Buchmann has to cancel his start at the Tour of Spain, which starts on Friday in Utrecht.

The 29-year-old is suffering from a urinary tract infection. This was announced by his Bora-hansgrohe team. Italian Matteo Fabbro has replaced Buchmann.

This leaves Buchmann unlucky on big tours. Falls, illnesses, Corona – since his fourth place on the 2019 tour, something has always come up. Even with his seventh place at the Giro d’Italia this year, he was thrown back in the preparation.

In the past few weeks, the Allgäu native had been preparing for the Vuelta with a high-altitude training camp after he hadn’t been part of the Bora squad for the tour. “After the last two years, when nothing went together for me, this year it’s about finding stability again,” Buchmann recently told the dpa. So now the setback again.

Captain of the German Bora team in the three-week Tour of Spain will be the Australian Jai Hindley, who won the Giro this year.
