The Danish professional cyclist Jonas Vingegaard confidently defended the yellow jersey on the queen’s stage of the Tour de France to Alpe d’Huez. Briton Thomas Pidcock took the day’s win.

No king’s fall on the king’s stage: The Dane Jonas Vingegaard confidently defended the yellow jersey of the overall leader in the Tour de France at the mountain finish in Alpe d’Huez. Defending champion Tadej Pogacar, who had collapsed spectacularly the day before and lost the lead, moved up to second overall.

Tour de France: 12th stage winner is the Brit Thomas Pidcock

The winner of the 12th stage on the legendary route in the French high Alps was Brit Thomas Pidcock. After 165.5 kilometers from Briancon to Alpe d’Huez on the French National Day, the world cross champion took the victory single-handedly ahead of South African Louis Meintjes and four-time Tour champion Chris Froome.

After the two massively difficult high mountain stages, the riders can relax a little on Friday. Over 192.6 kilometers from Le Bourg d’Oisans to Saint-Etienne, only two mountains of the third category and one of the second category await. It offers the sprinters one of the few chances of a mass finish.
