Tour de France 2023: follow the 19th stage between Moirans-en-Montagne and Poligny

The essential

2:35 p.m. – ⚡ It’s Nils Politt’s turn to try to set off alone, he is quickly joined by Alberto Bettiol and other runners. The pace is steady, very steady, it’s been going at an average of 49.2 km/h since the start of this stage.

2:27 p.m. – The two leading men caught up, no breakaway managed to form. Yesterday’s stage served as a lesson
: yes, a breakaway can make it happen. Be careful, therefore, on this “breaking legs” stage, if she takes, she can finish!

Alaphilippe and Küng on the attack

2:21 p.m. – ⚡ A new duo at the forefront. Lutsenko and Pedersen are picked up by the first group of the peloton and
another duo stands out: Julian Alaphilippe and the Swiss Stefan Küng.

2:20 p.m. – At km 35, the peloton splits in two. Pogacar is in the first group, as are David Gaudu, Jasper Philipsen and Thibaut Pinot. Adam Yates, the 3rd in the standings, is in the second group.

2:11 p.m. – At km 30, Adrien Petit joins the peloton, led by Matteo Trentin. The two men up front are 11” away.

Alexey Lutsenko in the lead after the first difficulty

2:10 p.m. – 🔴 Alexey Lutsenko is in the lead on the Bois de Lionge coast.

2:07 p.m. – The intercalated are resumed. Alexey Lutsenko takes the lead with a 5 second lead, followed by Mads Pedersen. Adrien Petit is left behind by the peloton.

2:00 p.m. –The first difficulty is looming: the Bois de Lionge coast (1.9 km at 5.7%). Five men are at the front: Lutsenko and Pedersen, followed by Mohoric, Cavagna and I.Izagirre who fight to join them.

1:58 p.m. – At km 17, Sagan is caught and the peloton grouped.

1:53 p.m. – ⚡ Peter Sagan attacks in turn. The Slovak sprinter with 12 stage victories in the Tour de France has not won any stage this year. In 2016, he won the Moirans-en-Montagne – Bern stage. A victory would be a great way to bow out for the triple world champion, soon to be retired. At 33, he is competing in his 12th and last Tour de France since he will be retiring at the end of the season.

1:49 p.m. – ⚡ Mathieu Burgaudeau in turn launches an attack. He is followed by Axel Zingle and Quentin Pacher, who remain at the front for a few kilometers before being caught.

Many attacks from the first kilometers

1:46 p.m. – Campenaerts taken over by the peloton at km 11.

1:43 p.m. – Campenaerts has been alone in the lead for a few kilometers, 10” ahead at km 8.

1:39 p.m. – ⚡ Several attacks from the first kilometers, but no escape yet. Victor Campenaerts, combative in yesterday’s stage, starts at the front at km 4.

1:05 p.m. – Darling! Tadej Pogacar will probably not win the Tour de France this year, but he does an impressive Grande Boucle and breaks records, including that of the white jersey for the best young person worn… 72 days in a row!

12:44 p.m. – Eight kilometers of a straight line, it’s an almost guaranteed sprint to the finish, who do you think are the favourites?

12:10 p.m. – 👶 Wout Van Aert is a dad again! This is THE photo that will melt bike and Wout Van Aert fans. The Belgian cyclist from the Jumbo Visma training became the father of a second child overnight, a little Jérôme. He had qfollowed the Tour de France yesterday, July 20,
in agreement with his team, to join his wife who is about to give birth. So it arrived right on time!

12:05 p.m. – 🚴 The stage of the day as seen by Christian Prudhomme. On the program for the peloton: 173km analyzed by Christian Prudhomme, the director of the Grande Boucle. “We could have done much, much harder. The Tour de France has enough difficulties with hills and passes in this 2023 edition not to add to it. It will be very, very aesthetic. This is the stage of the lakes. It’s absolutely beautiful.” And to specify: “Most of the stage where the breakaway will develop should be able to keep a little ahead depending on the capital that will remain for the sprinters. A stage traced 100% in the Jura department from Moirans-en-Montagne, the capital of wooden toys, to Poligny, the capital of the county. We know what the cheese will be this evening, when we have dinner with the elected officials who welcome us. “

11:50 a.m. – In Poligny, on the finish line, the teams from ASO, the organizer, are busy getting everything ready. France Bleu Besançon is also on site and makes you experience these preparations from the inside.

11:30 a.m. – 🏆 What a pleasure to have a great champion like Quentin Fillon Maillet, our Jura biathlete, at the microphone of France Bleu Besançon. This great Olympic champion is also a fan of cycling! : “I dream in my own way today because I’ve been cycling since I was little, I’m simply passionate about cycling. I also do it for my preparation so I’m like a child here to see the Tour de France from the inside! I’ve followed all the stages since the start of the season, I’m really passionate! Today, we’re at home, I’m going to see the roads of the Jura with the Tour de France, so it’s a beautiful day. I won’t be there. Living this experience in this way, I’m delighted, then being in my region, living this, with fans from Franche-Comté, it’s a great day! I can’t wait to see what today’s stage will give us!”.
