Tom Cruise has organized a private screening of his new film Top Gun: Maverick for Prince William and Duchess Kate.

Prince William, 39, and Duchess Kate, 40, are among the first people to see “Top Gun: Maverick,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 1986 cult hit. Like the British newspaper “The Sun” reported, Tom Cruise (59) personally organized an exclusive private screening for the royals. The Hollywood star is said to have rented the IMAX cinema in Leicester Square in London. The regular cinema release for the continuation of the flying adventure is in Germany on May 26th.

In addition to William and Kate, other members of the British royal family are said to have been present, including Princesses Eugenie (32) and Beatrice (33) and Sophie of Wessex (57). According to The Sun, the actor personally greeted the royal guests with hopes they would enjoy the film as much as he did filming. Then Cruise said goodbye.

Prince William is a big fan of ‘Top Gun’

Tom Cruise is said to have had the idea of a private performance when he found out that Prince William was a big fan of the cult film. Like Tom Cruise in the film, the number two in line to the British throne is a trained military pilot himself. After his time at the Sandhurst Military Academy, Prince William completed a four-month pilot training course with the Royal Air Force in 2008. He later added training as a helicopter pilot.

As of 2015, William worked as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. He donated his salary to charity. In 2017 he ended his flying career to devote himself to representative tasks and his family.

Tom Cruise reprises his role as Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick. After his active service, he now trains young recruits.
