The top Bundesliga game for female footballers offers goals and emotions. FC Bayern, which has been dominant for a long time, ultimately saves its victory against VfL Wolfsburg over time.

The footballers of the FC Bayern have taken the lead in the table with a win in the top Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg. Despite the overwhelming superiority in the first 45 minutes, the team of Norwegian coach Alexander Straus had to fend for the three points until the end at 2:1 (2:0).

In front of interim national coach Horst Hrubesch, Linda Dallmann in the 29th minute and Klara Bühl (37th) shot the champions from Munich comfortably into the lead. As if out of nowhere, the connection came through Lena Oberdorf (63′), who simply shot from 20 meters on the FC Bayern campus, which was sold out with 4,347 spectators.

Munich’s Jovana Damnjanovic (51′) missed the early decision with a hand penalty that hit the crossbar. FC Bayern, who are still unbeaten (14 points), are now leaders ahead of Wolfsburg, who have one point less.

Clear dominance

“I was a bit surprised,” Hrubesch admitted on ZDF about his surprise at Munich’s superiority in the first 45 minutes. “Bayern clearly dominated in the first half.”

Wolfsburg cleared the line twice (14th, 20th) before FC Bayern struck. After a bad pass from DFB captain and goalscorer Alexandra Popp, who was able to start despite muscular problems, the cautious Georgia Stanway sent the strong Bühl with a deep pass. Her cross allowed Lisa Schmitz, who was replacing national goalkeeper Merle Frohms due to the effects of a concussion, to clap forward. In the follow-up shot, Dallmann was faster than her opponents.

The midfielder later dropped the ball for Bühl, who scored with a dry shot from 17 meters into the bottom left corner. The Munich team continued to push, but neither Damnjanovic nor Bühl (54th) shot off the post to prematurely end VfL’s hopes of something worthwhile in Munich. After Oberdorf’s completely surprising goal, the Munich team saved their prestige victory over time.
