Top 14 – The UBB barometer – Bayonne: Ben Tameifuna striking, Maxime Lucu as savior

The players of the Union Bordeaux-Bègles had to work hard to overcome Rowing. Ben Tameifuna’s charges were formidable and Maxime Lucu was ultimately the savior of the UBB.

The Tops

Remy Baget

What a number from the Aviron winger! He was at his advantage throughout the match, being efficient on the balls he had to negotiate and well concentrated in the defensive sector. But above all he achieved the feat of the match on a pass to the foot of Camille Lopez, controlling the ball with his right hand before continuing with his foot. He recovered the ball and made a final hook to score and put his team in front on the scoreboard just after the hour mark.

Ben Tameifuna

The right pillar of Bordeaux was imperturbable in the test of strength but above all he was very active in the running game, particularly in the first period, multiplying the devastating charges. It was completely logical to see him score UBB’s second try in full force and without anyone’s help.

Maxime Lucu

The Gironde scrum-half was the savior of his team by scoring the winning try six minutes from the end of the match while Bayonne had a six-point lead. It is the mark of a great champion who is the boss of this team even when it is pitching in the storm.

The flops

Facundo Bosch

The Argentine hooker was, however, very energetic when he came on at the start of the second half. Unfortunately for rowing, he received a yellow card in the 73rd minute, leaving his partners at 14 for money time. A minute later, Bordeaux went back in front.

Damian Penaud

The international winger was very discreet against Bayonne. Little used, he did not have his usual influence and this may explain the difficulties encountered by his team in creating a sufficient gap, particularly in the first period. He only covered 17 meters with the ball in hand, which is far from his usual standards.

Matthew Jalibert

The international fly-half was unfortunate when he failed to flatten a harmless ball in his in-goal. He thus offered a gift try to the Bayonnais while the UBB was well in place in the first period. It’s a shame because Matthieu Jalibert seemed to be flying on the pitch until this action. He had left to cause misery to the Basques.
