A bulky garbage find turns out to be a masterpiece in “Bares for Rares”. But the seller is asking a high price – and is speculating ..

He is convinced of what he has found: “I think I have the dealer card for sure,” says Jürgen Wolke from Wernigerode confidently. The 70-year-old pensioner comes to “Bares for Rares” with a bulky waste find. “I saw the pile on the side of the road and asked if I could have the painting,” says Wolke on the ZDF junk show to Horst Lichter. “Can go,” was the answer. He then had the picture professionally cleaned and is sure that it is a masterpiece.

“Bares for Rares” expert Colmar Schulte-Goltz should clarify whether this is true. “A very beautiful painting in oil on canvas,” says the specialist. Shown is the Fletschhorn, a glacier in Switzerland. Although the picture is signed, Schulte-Goltz cannot assign the painter. “We know, however, that it was painted in 1855.” Stylistically, the work of art can be assigned to the alpine taste of the 19th century. “It’s a great painting.”

“Bares for Rares” expert confirms assumptions

Seller Wolke would like to have at least 1000 euros for the property. A proud sum when you consider that he picked up the painting on the side of the road. Although the picture shows some damage and the frame was unfortunately bronzed afterwards, the expert Schulte-Goltz agrees with the estimate. It even goes a little higher: to 1200 to 1500 euros. But the dealers will not agree.

Encouraged in its minimum price, Wolke praises its work of art in the dealer room. “The picture speaks for itself,” says the pensioner. But the bids start cautiously. Wolfgang Pauritsch starts with 300 euros. At 400 euros, Daniel Meyer thinks he’s already there. “I always buy pictures too dearly,” he says. Pauritsch is even willing to pay 550 euros. But cloud is playing poker. “I want at least 1000 euros for it,” he says. “That’s an announcement,” says Pauritsch. Cloud does not want to give up the painting even for 800 euros. “Then I’d better hang it up again.” The business is bursting.

Nevertheless, Pensioner Wolke is not disappointed. “The picture obviously wants to stay with me – and I can continue to enjoy it every day.”
