The Spanish football league is holding its Supercopa in Saudi Arabia. Toni Kroos was constantly booed at the game in Riyadh – and gave his answer after the game.

Toni Kroos countered the whistles against him from the stands in Riyadh with sarcasm. The 2014 German soccer world champion came on as a substitute in the 67th minute of the Spanish Supercopa semi-final against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday evening and was whistled at practically every time he touched the ball in the Al-Awwal Stadium. “It was fun today! Great audience,” wrote the 34-year-old on X, formerly Twitter.

There were also whistles from the stands during the minute’s silence for Franz Beckenbauer. The German football emperor died on Sunday at the age of 78.

Whistles because of criticism from Toni Kroos

“I don’t understand it,” said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti about the whistles against Kroos. The Italian success coach reported that he talked to him about it afterwards. The reason for the whistles is likely to be Kroos’ comments last summer. He had commented critically on the moves of many footballers to Saudi Arabia and emphasized that the human rights situation in the country was one thing that would prevent him from such a move.

Real won the game against their city rivals 5-3 after extra time and reached the final of the Supercopa. This will also take place on Sunday at the Al-Awwal Stadium.
