Tom Kaulitz lost a few pounds with the help of a fasting cure. Despite this, the method popular in Hollywood should not be seen as a means of losing weight.

According to his own statements, Tom Kaulitz has lost six kilos. Within a few days, the 32-year-old’s pounds dropped. He tells that in the podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Senf aus Hollywood”, which he produces weekly with his brother Bill. A fasting cure, the so-called “Master Cleanse Diet”, is said to be responsible for the weight loss.

Not only Tom’s partner Heidi Klum swears by the cure, other Hollywood stars like Beyoncé or Demi Moore are followers of the method that the non-medical practitioner Stanley Burroughs brought to life in 1940. Solid food is completely avoided for at least ten days. Instead, a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water is on the menu. In German, the “Master Cleanse Diet” is therefore also known as the lemon juice cure.

Six to twelve glasses of the drink should be consumed throughout the day, “whenever you feel hungry,” says the “center of health“. Vegetable broth and laxative teas are also allowed. It’s no secret that radical food deprivation goes hand in hand with weight loss. However, losing weight should not be the purpose of the cure. The “Master Cleanse Diet” is “of course not a diet, but more of a kind Juice cleanse, which is only carried out over a short period of time,” explains the health portal.

Detoxification is the aim of the fasting cure

The health aspect should be in the foreground: The digestive and detoxification system of the body can adjust itself completely to detoxification and purification, the metabolism and the function of the kidneys should be stimulated and toxins should be flushed out of the body. Conventional doctors, nutritionists and naturopaths warn against seeing the cure as a means of weight loss.

In addition, experts criticize the one-sidedness of the lemon juice cure. Proteins, carbohydrates, healthy fats, essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements are completely missing. Therefore, the cure should not be carried out over a long period of time and only after prior consultation with a doctor. The chances that the pounds will return after the fast are relatively high – the well-known yo-yo effect can strike if you eat normally afterwards.

That doesn’t seem to be the case with Tom Kaulitz (yet). He only noticed his weight loss when he filled out a health form, he says in his podcast. The form is a preparation for a recovery cure that the guitarist and Heidi Klum are planning for the summer. The 32-year-old has not revealed what exactly it is about.
