Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill to adapt Stephen King’s ‘Life of Chuck’

Though they probably won’t appear on screen together, Tom “Loki” Hiddleston and Mark “Luke Skywalker” Hamill are directing the King adaptation.

The novella “The Life of Chuck” was published in 2020 in Stephen King’s (75) anthology “Bloody News”. In three chapters, the novella tells the story of an inconspicuous businessman who plays a mysterious role in the end of the world.

Unlike many of King’s filmed stories, it’s not classic horror, but rather mystery. According to the creators, “The Life of Chuck” should therefore be based more on “Stand by Me”, “The Condemned” and “The Green Mile” – other King adaptations without a horror background.

Tom Hiddleston plays the title role of the grown Chuck, Mark Hamill his grandfather Albie when he was little. The two will therefore probably not be seen together on the screen.

Mike Flanagan: King-approved director

But the director of the project is a horror specialist. Mike Flanagan (44) will direct the film. He directed the horror series Haunted Hill House and Haunted Bly Manor for Netflix.

Flanagan also has experience with Stephen King. He adapted The Game, also for Netflix, based on King’s novel of the same name. And for the cinema he directed Doctor Sleeps Awakening, the sequel to King’s classic The Shining.
