Tom Hanks stars in the Pinocchio remake. Disney+ has released a first picture of grey-haired Geppetto.

A first picture shows Oscar winner Tom Hanks (65) as the wood carver Geppetto in the new “Pinocchio” film. In the official Disney+ photo, the actor with gray hair and a beard can be seen looking deep into his creation.

The remake of the cartoon classic from 1940 is expected to be available on the streaming platform in September. The live-action film will be directed by Robert Zemeckis (70). “Pinocchio” is about a wooden doll who embarks on an exciting adventure to become a real boy. Hanks plays the creator of Pinocchio. He treats him like his own son.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (41) is Jiminy Cricket, who is both Pinocchio’s companion and his “conscience”. The blue fairy is played by Cynthia Erivo (35). Keegan-Michael Key (50) is “Honest” John. Lorraine Bracco (67) plays a new character: She is Sofia the Seagull. Luke Evans (42) is the coachman.

“Forrest Gump” reunion

For Zemeckis and Hanks, the film is once again a reunion. The two have worked together several times. The two received numerous awards for the modern Hollywood classic “Forrest Gump” (1994). Among other things, Zemeckis received an Oscar for “Best Director”, while Hanks won his Oscar for “Best Actor”. The duo also worked together on Cast Away (2000) and The Polar Express (2004). Pinocchio is Hanks and Zemeckis’ fourth film together.
