Tom Hanks spoke about his novel debut and his choice for the next 007 in an interview with the BBC.

For Tom Hanks (66) there can only be one new James Bond: Idris Elba (50). The Oscar winner did this in an interview with BBC clear. “James Bond has a license to kill,” Hanks said. “I would give Idris Elba that license just because of the work I’ve seen of him.”

Idris Elba has long been one of the favorites to succeed Daniel Craig (55). The name of the “Luther” star is often mentioned in relevant discussions. And just as often he refutes the rumours. Elba could also be too old. After all, the producers recently said that they were looking for someone in their mid-thirties.

Tom Hank’s first novel is out

Incidentally, when it came to James Bond, the conversation between Tom Hanks and the BBC came about through literature. The Hollywood star presented his first novel. The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece is out worldwide this Tuesday (May 9). In Germany you can already order the book in English. There is no German translation yet.

The novel is, how could it be otherwise, about Hollywood. It’s about the making of a great superhero film, the story spanning almost 80 years. Tom Hanks has been writing all his life, he says. In 2017 his first book, the collection of short stories “Schräge Typen” was published.

The star is aware that it is unfair that, unlike unknown authors, he did not have to fight for publication. But he hopes his debut novel will “live and die by its own ability to entertain and enlighten audiences.” The reviews so far have been rather mixed.
