Mega surprise in the NFL!
Quarterback superstar Tom Brady (44) is not resigning and is hanging on for a season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He announced this on Twitter.
Brady: “In the last two months it has become clear to me that my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come eventually, but not now. I love my teammates and I love my supportive family. You make everything possible. I’m coming back to Tampa for my 23rd season. Unfinished business.”
On February 1, Brady announced his retirement after 22 years in the NFL after his Buccs lost the playoff early against the LA Rams (27:30).
Brady wrote at the time: “It’s hard for me to write this but here it comes: I can’t do this sporting commitment anymore. I loved my NFL career. But now it’s time for me to focus on something else that needs my attention.”
There have always been rumors of a resignation in the past few weeks. Especially after Brady’s performance with Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester on Saturday. When Ronaldo asked if Brady was retired, the quarterback superstar huffed around.
His head coach Bruce Arians (69) had therefore repeatedly emphasized: “This door is never closed. If he wants to come back, he comes back.”
Brady himself also hinted at least a little in his podcast “Let’s Go” that he could imagine a comeback: “I take things as they come. You never say never”.
The Buccaneers now wrote on Twitter: “He’s back”
With a total of seven (!) Super Bowl victories (2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021), Brady is the best player in NFL history. He therefore carries the nickname “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) best player of all time. He was voted Super Bowl MVP five times.
The quarterback is also the most-winning NFL player of all time by regular-season wins with 243 and overall wins with 278. He played for the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2019, after which he played two seasons in Tampa Bay. So now follows his 23rd!
Lucky for German fans: The Buccaneers are playing in Munich this season! Brady will play in front of a German audience in the fall.
Brady’s contract runs until the end of next season. He will collect a total of 39 million dollars! His $24 million salary comes with a $15 million signing bonus.
Bitter: On the day of his return, of all days, an American had bought the football with which Brady had thrown the last touchdown for $518,628.
