The festival season is in full swing. This weekend, in addition to the Parookaville Festival, the Deichbrand will also take place. Alongside Marteria, Deichkind and KIZ, Tokio Hotel are also on stage at the festival on the North Sea. The latter were among the headliners on Friday and were on stage at 9:20 p.m. But the performance didn’t go as expected
It should be the first festival gig in Germany for Bill and Tom Kaulitz and their band. But at this important event of all things things went wrong. Thousands of fans waited in front of the stage for the band’s performance on Friday. But when Tokio Hotel started their set, it quickly became clear that something was going terribly wrong here.
Deichbrand Festival: Tokyo Hotel Show interrupted
When the cameras panned to Tom Kaulitz, he was seen gesturing wildly with his hand. Drummer Gustav Schäfer also signaled that something wasn’t going right. Dhe performance is interrupted, there are technical problems.
How long will the disruption last? Completely unclear. But the fans and the band had probably only assumed a minor disruption. That wasn’t the case.

Bill Kaulitz tries to save the mood
First, Bill tried to bridge the break with a small outfit presentation, showing the fans his glittering one-piece suit under his jacket. But a little later he leaves the stage, just like the rest of the band.
30 minutes nothing went further musically than the “North Sea Newspaper” reported. Not even taped music was played. The fans became impatient, the mood threatened to change.
Bill Kaulitz performs with acoustic guitar
To salvage what can be salvaged, Bill came back on stage with an acoustic guitar and announced: “I’ve now found another guitar that we can still play something with. The technology is completely crappy. We’re so sorry! We had prepared such a great set for you.”
For the fans, the band then tuned into an acoustic version of their hit “Durch den Monsun” and let the audience sing along with the song “Fahr mit mir”. So Tokio Hotel could at least ensure a good conclusion. After the song, however, it was actually over. The stage time was over, the next act was already in the starting blocks. For all those who came to the Deichbrand Festival mainly because of Tokio Hotel, this performance must have been a bitter disappointment.

That same evening, Bill spoke via video message on Instagram about the canceled performance and announced that the band was “devastated” by the way the show went. They had rehearsed for the performance for a long time, thought about a great show, but only a few songs could have been played. “We weren’t able to get back on stage,” Bill let fans know. The reason: the entire technology system collapsed and could not be repaired so quickly.
