The souls of plague victims and the devil himself are said to be roaming the Todtenauer Moor. Most stories can be refuted, but will-o’-the-wisps are actually possible in the area.
The Todtenau Moor in the Bavarian Forest has been growing for around 13,500 years. In addition to the impressive peat layer, which is now up to nine meters long, the number of myths and legends about the area is also remarkable. There are stories of sunken cities, wandering plague deaths and brutal battles that still color the water of the ponds red today.
