To rule at the traffic lights or not at all – opinion

The alternative to the traffic light would not be Jamaica, but a grand coalition again. FDP leader Christian Lindner cannot want that. Especially since an alliance with the SPD and the Greens would also have some advantages for his party.

It says nothing good about a chairman’s position if one of his most loyal remaining supporters is the head of another party. The bleak picture that Armin Laschet is giving these days would therefore not be complete without a look at Christian Lindner. After his party’s good performance, the FDP chairman does not take the Jamaica option off the table without need and ahead of time. That is understandable. In terms of negotiating tactics, it would be nonsense and hardly communicable within the party. Nevertheless, Christian Lindner will soon have to start getting his people used to reality: the FDP will rule at traffic lights or not at all.
