As Max Alliès, the president of the Federation of hunters of the Hérault, had announced to 20 minutes the 11th of March, a search was organized on Wednesday, in Montpellier (Hérault), to deal with the profusion of wild boars in the city. The operation took place in the Hérault capital, but also in Grabels and Juvignac, two neighboring towns.
About fifty hunters took part in this hunt, during which the wild boars were pushed back to uninhabited areas before they were killed.
In town, there is enough to “eat, drink and hide”
Twenty wild boars were killed on Wednesday. “Taking into account the growth rate of the species and the survival rate, it can be estimated that this hunt has made it possible to avoid the presence of around fifty additional animals once the spring births have taken place in this part of the the metropolis”, notes the structure.
In recent years, wild boars abound in Montpellier. On social networks, there are many videos showing wild pigs wandering around neighborhoods. “With the decline of pastoralism, the modifications of the biotope, etc., the brushwood arrives at the edge of the cities, explained on March 11 to 20 minutes Max Alliès, president of the Federation of Hérault hunters. And boars, that suits them perfectly. What they need is something to eat, drink and hide. “And above all, in the districts of Montpellier, “they don’t have the pressure that is put on them elsewhere”.
