Now the goal has even been exceeded, says editor-in-chief Julia Mateus in an interview with the SZ. A total of 6,000 new subscriptions and 34,000 euros in donations were collected. Almost a year ago, Julia Mateus became the first woman ever to head the traditional magazine. As boss, she has to steer it into a digital future with sensitivity and appeal to younger target groups – without alienating the core readership and the aging, mostly male, authors and readers of the past decades. Regarding the averted bankruptcy, Mateus says dryly: “We see confirmation that print is the medium of the future.”
