Such a degree is expensive: life, going out, and first of all housing. Around 700 euros were last called for on one of the major online portals for a short-term free room in a shared flat in Munich – on average, mind you. The nationwide average rent was 435 euros, more than eleven percent higher than in 2021. The Bafög is often no longer enough. But alternatives are scarce: a room in a cheaper hall of residence is often only available after waiting several semesters, if at all, and the really good, cheap stalls usually go directly from one fellow student to the next. Inaccessible for freshmen from outside. But who wants to sit in the old children’s room, even if the lecture hall and library are within easy reach?
