Timothée Chalamet has set a record that was last achieved by John Travolta in the 70s. He congratulates his colleague.

Timothée Chalamet (28) has achieved considerable box office success with his last two films. As “Indiewire” reports, the young actor is the first since John Travolta (70) to have two highest-grossing films within eight months.

Travolta set this record over four decades ago with “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease.” Only now, Chalamet, another actor who is equally successful has joined the cast. His most recent films “Wonka” and “Dune: Part Two”, in both of which he plays the lead role, are the only two films that have exceeded the $200 million mark in America since July last year.

Travolta congratulates Chalamet with Instagram post

Travolta last achieved this feat in the 1970s – and he is happy about his colleague’s success. He posted a People article on Instagram to the news and wrote: “Congratulations Timothée! It’s great to have someone to share my box office record with. Kind regards, JT”.

In “Wonka,” Chalamet stars as chocolate factory owner Willy Wonka. It was the third live-action film adaptation of the children’s novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl (1916-1990). The film played worldwide according to People 630 million dollars (around 581 million euros).

Chalamet can currently be seen alongside other stars such as Zendaya (27), Austin Butler (32), Christopher Walken (80) and Florence Pugh (28) in the second part of the sci-fi film adaptation “Dune: Part Two”. The film was released in cinemas on March 1st and has already grossed $494.7 million (around €456 million) worldwide. It’s expected to surpass the success of “Wonka.”

Next coup: Chalamet as Dylan

The actor is also creating anticipation with another film project: He will soon portray the singer/songwriter Bob Dylan (82) in a biopic. The first photos of Chalamet in his role as young Dylan were published last Sunday (March 17).
