According to the director, the tablecloth between Tim Burton and the Disney film studio has finally been cut.

Cult director Tim Burton (64) can certainly be described as Disney’s own creation. As a young student, he received a scholarship in the animation department of the world-famous company and has worked for it on and off for over 40 years. Burton’s words weigh all the more heavily which he is now talking to the US industry website “Deadline” regarding Disney drops. During the shooting of his live-action adaptation of “Dumbo”, he noticed that he felt like the little elephant himself.

“I realized I was Dumbo and I was working in a huge, horrible circus that I had to escape from. To some degree the film is autobiographical.” This realization is the reason why the 2019 film was probably the last collaboration and his “days at Disney are numbered”.

Burton, who is known for his dark and fairytale films like “Edward Scissorhands” (1991), also insists on criticizing the new direction of the film studio. Instead of giving smaller projects enough space to develop, in his opinion they would concentrate too much on mega franchises like “Star Wars” or Marvel. “It became very homogeneous, very compact, with less space for other things.” His clear dig at the MCU: “I can only get involved in one universe, I can’t deal with a multiverse.”

On the film front, he currently has no specific project in the pipeline, Burton further revealed. On the planned sequel to his film “Beetlejuice”, which has been planned since the beginning of the year, so he does not participate. Thanks to his Netflix series “Wednesday”, which he developed together with Alfred Gough (55) and Miles Millar (55) and also acts as a producer, he still has enough to do. The series about the eponymous “Addams Family” member, played by Jenna Ortega (20), will premiere on the streaming service on November 23.
