The common streaming services still have audio books that Otfried Preußler recorded himself. He reads the “Krabat” aloud, talks about “Hörbe with the big hat”, and in the color of his speech, the rolling R and the softly ground consonants, you can hear the area from which he comes. The fact that this area, northern Bohemia, more precisely Liberec in the Czech Republic, which was called Reichenberg in his childhood, underpins and determines everything that we still know about him today and read to children, is brought to the fore by FAZ feature writer Tilman Spreckelsen in his biography of Preußler.
