Maximum attention with little substance: Till Lindemann follows a well-known pattern when releasing his new single “Entre dos tierras”.

One would have expected him to keep the ball flat. At least for a while. But that doesn’t seem to be one’s style To be Till Lindemann.

After allegations of sexual abuse were made against the Rammstein singer last year, protests were a constant companion to Rammstein’s performances and his solo concerts. Lindemann, who denies the allegations to this day, is not even thinking about taking a step back. On the contrary.

Till Lindemann looks like Klaus Kinski

Before releasing the video for his new solo single “Entre dos Tierras”, Lindemann released snippets that were announced as teasers for the clip. They show Lindemann unbuttoning his pants and then allegedly raping a woman lying on the ground. The 14 seconds can be seen, among other things, on a YouTube channel called “Till Sexov and his adventures”.

The whole scene takes place on a plantation, Lindemann is wearing a white suit. He seems a bit like Klaus Kinski as Fitzcarraldo in Werner Herzog’s film of the same name. The megalomaniacal and brilliant character who wanted to build an opera house in the Peruvian jungle and even had a ship pulled over a mountain to do so.

The provocation succeeded: The “Bild” newspaper jumped on it straight away and dedicated a separate article to the snippet under the headline: “Is he reenacting a rape? Till Lindemann shocks with choking video”.

The method is known from Rammstein

The finished video can now be seen. There’s nothing scandalous about it. It contains everything that the trailer already suggested – but it is cut differently. In the scenes that are supposed to show the rape, only Lindemann’s face with his wide-open eyes can be seen. But not the woman lying beneath him.

A method that Rammstein has often used: in 2019, the band shocked everyone with a pre-released excerpt from their video “Deutschland”, which shows them as concentration camp prisoners on the gallows with yellow stars. A scandal? The finished video presented the entire scene completely differently. The supposed tastelessness and trivialization of the Holocaust turned out to be a rejection of patriotism and nationalism.

With “Entre dos tierras”, a cover of the 1990 hit by the Spanish band Héroes del Silencio, Till Lindemann has now done a very similar thing. All you can say is: Please move on, there’s nothing to see here.
