Geriatric nurse Rashid Hamid and 91-year-old Erwin regularly record TikTok videos together. The pensioner in particular inspires many users with his dry, amiable nature.

There are a few decades between Rashid Hamid and Grandpa Erwin: Hamid is 29 years old, Erwin is already a proud 91. But despite his old age, the Hamburger has become a small TikTok star – thanks to Hamid. He is his geriatric nurse and has been producing short videos with Erwin in the leading role for some time.

Hamid runs the outpatient nursing service “Pflege Smile” in the Hanseatic city. In order to make his offers better known, he wanted to advertise on the Internet – preferably on the video app TikTok. He immediately thought of Erwin as the main actor, Hamid reported to “Bild”: “He’s funny, in a good mood – we’re always laughing.” In fact, the senior creates a good atmosphere in the videos with his wisdom, the Hamburg dialect and dry, North German humor.

Hamid holds back in most of the videos and lets his client take the stage. He obviously likes this role: “I look forward to every visit from Rashid – and to every video,” he told “Bild”. The 91-year-old shines with sayings like “What messes up nature, art replaces” – example cosmetic surgery. But he also dedicates himself to serious topics and reports on his childhood experiences during the Second World War: “It wasn’t important that you were out and about with neighbours’ children, it was more important: What do we eat?”

TikTok is particularly popular with younger users – and although Erwin is slowly approaching 100, he still has important advice for this age group on how to use the Internet: “Internet is free and free, but what is offered you don’t have to buy everything.”

Rashid Hamid first reported on his TikTok channel mainly about his everyday work as a geriatric nurse, but now pensioner Erwin is in the foreground, Hamid mainly gives keywords and asks questions. This is well received by the users: more than 50,000 people have already followed the account within a few months. The duo put a smile on many people’s faces. “I could listen to him for hours,” writes one user. Independent of the videos, Hamid and Erwin are now good friends: they call each other every day.
