US superstar Tiger Woods is now also a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. The 15-time Major winner was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The eulogy for Woods was given by his 14-year-old daughter Sam, who gave a moving insight into her successful father’s career.

The 46-year-old golf star himself did not mention any of his great triumphs in his emotional acceptance speech. The 82-time winner on the PGA Tour shared little anecdotes he shared with his parents, Tida and Earl Woods, early in his career. It was about the passion for golf and the work ethic that made him who he is today. An important piece of advice for him from his late father was: “Train hard, fight light!”. Woods broke down in tears as he detailed how his father taught him hard work.

After a serious car accident almost exactly a year ago, Woods, who was number one in the world for a total of 683 weeks, continues to work on his comeback on the US tour.

The World Golf Hall of Fame now has 164 members. Among those who have made outstanding contributions to golf are such prominent names as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, Seve Ballesteros and Germany’s golfing idol Bernhard Langer, as summarized by the British “Daily Mail”.

Shortly after starting his career as a golf pro, Woods won his first tournament on the PGA Tour in October 1996 with the Las Vegas Invitational. In April 1997, at the age of only 21, he triumphed for the first time at the Masters – and is still the youngest golfer to win the legendary tournament in Augusta. In April 2001 he won the Masters for the second time and held the titles of all four major tournaments at the same time – no golfer has managed that since.
