Joe Exotic, made famous by the Netflix series “Tiger King”, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. As he explains in a letter, he is now asking again for release from prison.
Joseph Maldonado, better known as Joe Exotic, has been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer. Maldonado has now announced this through his lawyer. The eccentric former reality star and zoo owner is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for a murder assignment.
“With a sad face, I have to tell you today that the doctors called me today to tell me that my prostate biopsy has come back with an aggressive cancer. I am also waiting for more tests,” explains Maldonado in his letter. At the moment, however, he does not want pity from anyone.
As “CNN” reports with reference to his lawyer John M. Phillips, Maldonado is being treated for a variety of health problems. Part of the treatment was also a so-called PSA test.
Joe Exotic wants to go home for treatment
“The PSA test is a blood test primarily used to screen for prostate cancer. It was high. It eventually got biopsies. They showed cancer. Medical care is different in a prison setting and fewer options are available,” said Phillips.
In the Instagram post, Maldonado again protested his innocence. He wants to go home “to be treated for myself or to enjoy the life that I have left with my loved ones”.
Already in May there were signs of a possible Maldonado cancer. At the time he wrote that his body was “tired” and that he had lost a lot of weight. In the course of this, wide-ranging medical tests began.
Maldonado was sentenced to 264 months in prison in 2019 for an attempt to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin and other crimes including animal abuse.
