Just in time for the start of the summer holidays, Hagenbeck Zoo has a new visitor magnet: the polar bear girl can now be seen in the outdoor enclosure for visitors.

Hamburg is just before the summer holidays – and the Tierpark Hagenbeck has one more crowd puller: Since this Tuesday, the polar bear cub that was born at the end of last year can also be seen by visitors in the outdoor area of the zoo. Until now, a video camera has shown on a screen in the enclosure how the cub spent the days inside the enclosure with mother Victoria.

The mini bear is a girl and not so mini anymore: according to the zoo, the little one weighs a good 40 kilos, when fully grown she can easily reach a weight of more than 200 kilos.

She was born on December 19, 2022 in Hagenbeck Zoo. A sensation for the zoo, because it was the first polar bear birth in more than 20 years. In 2002, mother Victoria was also born in this zoo.

Tierpark Hagenbeck: Little polar bear with mother Victoria in the outdoor enclosure

This Tuesday, mother Victoria did not hesitate for a moment when the slider to the outdoor enclosure opened, Hagenbeck writes in a press release. The parent animal immediately entered the outdoor area – “closely followed by their offspring”.

Photos from the first rounds in the outdoor enclosure show: The polar bear girl is obviously very keen to explore. She also boldly jumps into the pool, according to the zoo. To ensure that romping on the rocks and in the water remains safe, the enclosure has been made extra safe for young animals. For example, there are special climbing nets so that the little polar bear can also climb out of the water in deeper places.

Now the still nameless offspring of polar bears can be seen in the outdoor enclosure every day from around 9 a.m. The summer holidays in the Hanseatic city also begin this Thursday.
