While we are experiencing the peak of this heatwave this weekend, with many records broken, storms return from the Atlantic on Sunday. They will be potentially violent and will reach the central regions and the east of the country on Monday and Tuesday, driving away the heatwave once and for all.

For you who are suffering from this severe to very severe heat, good news awaits you, since temperatures will drop between Monday and Tuesday. However, this will be done with the return of storms which may be violent.

Arrival of the first storms from the Atlantic yesterday Sunday

A marked deterioration is taking place in the southwest this Sunday evening. These storms extend from the Aquitaine basin to the Limousin in the night from Sunday to Monday. They shiftnt then towards the central regions then towards the north, losing force very quickly.

The real stormy deterioration sets in this Monday evening

From this Monday evening, other storms will form from the southwest to the Massif Central and will move up towards the central regions during the night from Monday to Tuesday.

Tomorrow Tuesday, the Atlantic disturbance will sink deeper into the country, stretching from the southwest to the eastern borders of Rhône-Alpes. But in contact with the very warm air which will still resist, these storms promise to be powerful. Under this storm axis, violent phenomena could occur, with heavy hailstorms and gusts exceeding 90 km/h. These storms will shift during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday towards the Alps, Jura and Alsace.

Wednesdaystorms will persist for a large part of the day from the Pyrenees to the Massif Central to the east of the Rhône and the Saône, being sometimes very rainy while an improvement will reach the other regions.

Rain sometimes heavy during thunderstorms

The Atlantic disturbance will take 3 days to cross France, slowed in its progress by the resistance of high pressures on central Europe. This situation is conducive to fairly heavy rain, which could take on a violent nature locally during storms.

Sudden drop in temperatures

The main point between Sunday and next Tuesday will be the drop in temperatures, often 10 to 15°C lower than this weekend. The heat wave that began last weekend nationwide will therefore end between Monday and Tuesday. It will have lasted 10 days and will appear on 1er or 2th rank of the most intense heat waves in September, possibly ahead of that of September 1911!
