Thunderstorms cause an impressive tornado in Mayenne, without causing any injuries

In France, the phenomenon is extremely rare. If, across the Atlantic, Americans experience a tornado season, this is not the case in France, which is generally spared from violent weather phenomena. However, on Sunday, a mini-tornado formed around 6 p.m. near Ernée, in Mayenne. It damaged several buildings which collapsed without causing any casualties, according to Codis.

“We carried out seven interventions, mainly for agricultural buildings which collapsed, including two with animals underneath,” the same source said. Two residential houses were also damaged, it was said.

“Shocked” person taken to hospital

This meteorological phenomenon did not cause any casualties, firefighters said. However, one person was taken to hospital, “shocked” after their garage collapsed on their vehicle, it was added, stressing that the weather had become calm again in the area.

Thirty-three departments in a large western half of the country, from Nouvelle-Aquitaine to Ile-de-France, were placed on orange alert for storms on Sunday, an “intense” episode being feared with hail, gusts wind and torrential rain. Mayenne was not one of the departments concerned by orange vigilance but was nevertheless placed on yellow vigilance.
