Throwing cans in Munich City Hall: AfD files charges for incitement to hatred – Munich

The Munich AfD city councilors filed a criminal complaint on Monday for “incitement to hatred, depiction of violence, insult and denigration of the memory of the deceased”. Formally, the ad is aimed at unknown persons, it is aimed at the Green Youth, the youth organization of the Greens. As part of the town hall clubbing for Munich residents who had just come of age last Saturday, she set up a throwing booth – and stuck pictures of AfD politicians on the cans that you could throw at.

“In times of increasing threats of violence against politicians of all persuasions, target practice on political competitors represents an act of incitement to hatred,” AfD city councilor Markus Walbrunn justified the ad. What made the action “particularly disgusting” was the fact that one of the people pictured was Corinna Miazga, a member of the AfD Bundestag who has since died of cancer. “With their action, the Green Youth not only reveals a special degree of tastelessness,” says Walbrunn, “but also their anti-democratic character.”

In a statement, the Green Youth stated that the pictured Corinna Miazga had “deceased, unknown to us, since the last time the throwing game was carried out. We apologize to the grieving relatives for the use of her picture”. The intention of throwing cans, which is known as a child’s game, was to arouse political interest in young people through its playful character. “The fact that the AfD of all people sees a threat of violence in this game is a contradiction in terms of their own statements to other politicians or to refugees,” says the statement.
