Throttle electricity: When heat pumps and electric car charging stations are affected – Economy

In order for the energy transition to work, people in Germany should use electric cars and climate-friendly heating systems, such as heat pumps, in the future. To do this, they require more electricity than was previously the case for normal household consumption. However, the local network that distributes electricity to households is not yet designed to supply these devices on a large scale. Using the argument that the local power grid is overloaded, network operators have so far been able to refuse or delay the connection to private charging stations for electric cars and heat pumps. This is now regulated more precisely in paragraph 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). It is intended to enable the heating and transport transition to begin while the networks are being expanded.
