Three years in prison for the drug smuggler driver

The Perpignan Criminal Court sentenced a truck driver to three years in prison. On January 10, customs officers from Perthus, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, checked a heavy goods vehicle coming from Spain, on the A9 motorway. On board, hidden under organic compost, they had discovered numerous heat-sealed bags containing herbal cannabis. These sachets had been detected after the use of a probe.

A total of 340 kg of herbal cannabis, worth 595,000 euros on the illicit market, had been seized by customs officers from Perthus. Goods a priori intended for Germany. The driver had been handed over to the police officers of the Judicial Police of Perpignan then imprisoned while awaiting his appearance in court.

In addition to the prison sentence, he was also sentenced to a customs fine of 595,000 euros and five years of banishment from the territory.
